How to Fix Windows Error 0xc0000005


Error Code 0xc0000005 could happen on a Windows P.C. for several reasons, such as having cheap or no RAM, damaged registry files, viruses, the wrong hardware setup, etc. It’s one of the common errors that pops up on a Windows system, primarily in three situations:

Windows Installation Error

  • The error prevents the Windows OS installation and is often related to hardware issues temporary with the RAM either corrupt hard drive due to bad sectors.

  • Double tick LoadAppInit_DLLs plus modify the value of 1 to 0
  • Click ‘OK’ to verify that changes.
  • Stop the Registry Editor window and restart the system.

Check if this error yet pops up when you try to launch an application.

3. Run SFC

SFC, which stands for “System File Checker,” can help fix any damaged Windows system files causing this error. It’s easy to run an S.F.C. scan,

  • Press Windows key and type cmd
  • Right-click on ‘Command Prompt’ and select ‘Run as Administrator.’ A command prompt window appears
  • Type SFC /scannow and hit this Enter key.
  • Let the SFC scan to end (It will automatically detect corrupt system files and will replace them among new of the cache)

4. Turn off DEP

Data Execution Prevention, or D.E.P., is a system-level memory security tool built into Windows that keeps your system from failing because of bugs and other security alerts. Still, any programs that try to use Windows’ D.E.P. feature fail with an error code 0xc0000005. To stop D.E.P.,

  • Sign in on Windows as Administrator
  • Press ‘Windows+R’ plus type sysdm.cpl. Hit Enter
  • Click the ‘Advanced’ tab and next click that ‘Settings’ button.
  • Click on the Data Execution Protection tab and click ‘Turn on DEP for each program and services except these I choose.’
  • Click the ‘Add’ button and then browse also add all the executable (.exe) files causing the issue.
  • Click ‘OK’
  • Restart the system and try running these programs

5. Run CHKDSK Utility

Error number 0x0000005 can also lead to a bad hard drive or bad sectors on the drive. To fix the disk damage caused by bad sectors, you can now run the C.H.K.D.S.K. (check disk) tool.

Type chkdsk X: /f /r into the command line while in user mode, and then press the “Enter” key. Here, “X” is the hard drive’s letter that needs to be fixed.

6. Use Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Type “Troubleshooting” into the search bar. Then press the “Enter” key.
  • To see Windows 8’s built-in troubleshooters, click “See All” in the upper left. Then, click “Hardware and Devices” to run the troubleshooter.Scroll down in Windows 10 and click on “Hardware and Devices.” Then click on “Run the troubleshooter.”
  • Watch for the troubleshooter to fix things. Restart this system by clicking “Apply fixes.”

7. Update Disk Drivers or Re-install them

Your system already has the most recent driver. If you have a problem with the device, updating the driver takes care of most of it and ensures that your system has the most up-to-date fixes for errors and bugs.

  • Type “Device Manager” into the “Windows” search bar, then click on “Device Manager.”
  • Different programs are put in place when you double-click on the Disk Drives and then right-click on Windows.
  • In the Update Driver box, choose Update Driver and then click Search instantly for new driver software.
  • Wait for Windows to look for the driver. Still, it needs help finding a new driver. It would help if you had to get one from the disk manufacturer’s website and update it by clicking Browse my computer for driver software in the Update Drivers box.

If updating the drivers doesn’t help, try installing them again. To remove the disk, right-click it and choose “Uninstall device.” Then, make sure the system restarts. Windows will reinstall drivers on its own.
